4.2.4.5(1) Prerequisites for units are set out under 'Unit details'.

            (2) Unless the Faculty approves otherwise on academic grounds, students are not permitted to enrol in a unit unless they have completed the necessary prerequisite unit(s) within the previous five years.

            (3) The Faculty may permit a student to enrol concurrently in Level 1 and Level 2 or 3 units but will not do so unless—

            (a) the student is enrolled in sufficient Level 1 units to permit them to complete all of the remaining Level 1 requirements in that year of enrolment; or

            (b) the student is required to complete Level 2 unit(s) as a prerequisite to further studies in the areas of mathematics or modern languages.

            (4) Unless the Faculty permits otherwise in exceptional circumstances, students who are enrolled concurrently in Level 1 and Level 2 or 3 units are not permitted to withdraw from the Level 1 unit(s) while retaining enrolment in the Level 2 or 3 units.

            (5) Prerequisites for majors and minors offered by the Faculty are set out in the Faculty Rules for the major or minor concerned.

            (6) Unless the Faculty approves otherwise, students are not permitted to commence a major or minor offered by the Faculty unless they have completed the necessary prerequisite unit(s) within the previous five years.

            Satisfactory progress

4.2.4.6(1) Students will not have made satisfactory progress if—

            (a) in a calendar year, they do not pass units to a value of at least half the total value of units in which they remain enrolled after the final date for withdrawal without academic penalty; or

            (b) they have failed the same unit for the third time.

            (2) In determining whether or not a student has made satisfactory progress in terms of (1)(b), units attempted through University Extension are not taken into account.

[(1)(b) and (2) are approved additions to University Policy]

            Progress status

4.2.4.7(1) Students who have made satisfactory progress are assigned the progress status of ‘Good Standing’ by the Faculty.
