Selection of broadening units

To help you select your broadening units, read the information on how to satisfy the broadening requirements of your undergraduate degree course.

Listed below are the broadening units for students in each of the four UWA undergraduate pass degree courses—Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Bachelor of Design (BDes) and Bachelor of Science (BSc).

For BA students

Broadening units for Bachelor of Arts students

As a Bachelor of Arts student you can choose from a wide range of Category A and Category B broadening units available in the following broad degree areas.

Category A


All Category A broadening units (for BA students)

Category B


All Category B broadening units (for BA students)

1 Bachelor of Arts students can only count up to two Category A broadening units from units offered in Arts.

For BCom students

Broadening units for Bachelor of Commerce students

As a Bachelor of Commerce student you can choose from a wide range of Category A and Category B broadening units available in the following broad degree areas.

Category A


All Category A broadening units (for BCom students)

Category B


All Category B broadening units (for BCom students)

1 Bachelor of Commerce students can only count up to two Category A broadening units from units offered in Commerce.

For BDes students

Broadening units for Bachelor of Design students

As a Bachelor of Design student you can choose from a wide range of Category A and Category B broadening units available in the following broad subject groupings.

All Category A broadening units (for BDes students)

Category B


All Category B broadening units (for BDes students)

1 Bachelor of Design students can only count up to two Category A broadening units from units offered in Design.

For BSc students

Broadening units for Bachelor of Science students

As a Bachelor of Science student you can choose from a wide range of Category A and Category B broadening units available in the following broad subject groupings.

All Category B broadening units (for BSc students)

1 Bachelor of Science students can only count up to two Category A broadening units from units offered in Science.

For BPhil (Hons) students

Broadening units for Bachelor of Philosophy (Hons) students

As a Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) student you can choose from a wide range of Category A and Category B broadening units, determined by the degree of your degree-specific major. Please refer to the above tab for that degree for the range of units available.

For example, if your degree-specific major is Engineering Science, a Bachelor of Science major, refer to the 'For BSc students' tab.
