Honours course

Honours in Engineering Science

Honours in Engineering Science provides you with the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in Engineering Science, through a combination of advanced coursework units and an in-depth investigation on a research topic of interest. In this additional year of studies, you will develop high-level technical, research and communication skills beyond those learned in your bachelor's degree. The honours course may be taken in conjunction with the Master of Professional Engineering (MPE), and may be of particular interest to students in the Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) course and/or for those wishing to pursue a career in research, including PhD studies.

Outcomes: Students are able to (1) communicate clearly, effectively and appropriately using written, oral and visual means in a range of contexts; (2) locate and critically evaluate research literature and other sources of information in a particular field; (3) formulate a research question and design a framework to answer the question; (4) select and practise appropriate methods to test a hypothesis or theory; (5) select and apply appropriate conceptual tools to analyse a problem; (6) evaluate and synthesise results and draw appropriate conclusions; (7) demonstrate disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge and skills through research-based enquiry; (8) demonstrate the skills required to learn, and to continue through life to learn, from a variety of sources and experiences; (9) plan and manage a project to meet deadlines; and (10) demonstrate orderly management of self and professional conduct in interactions with others.

Entry requirements: the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 70 per cent in the Level 3 units of the chosen specialisation of the Engineering Science major.

Intake periods: Beginning of year and mid-year
