UWA Handbook 2017

Honours course

Honours in Geographical Science

An Honours in Geography provides you with the skills and knowledge to engage in the advanced analysis of spatial patterns and processes in natural and built environments. It provides you with training in conceptual methodological approaches to geographical inquiry, and develops an appreciation of the links between theory and practice in geography. You will also engage in an independent research project on a topic of geographical significance.

Outcomes: Students are able to (1) undertake independent research design, data collection and data analysis; (2) communicate ideas, concepts and research findings in a succinct and effective manner via written, verbal and visual methods; and (3) work independently, think and act laterally and use their initiative to resolve issues and problems encountered during the research process.

Entry requirements: the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 65 per cent in the Level 3 units of the Geography major in the Bachelor of Science or the Human Geography and Planning major in the Bachelor of Arts.

Intake periods: Beginning of year and mid-year
