Unit Overview

Description

Groundwater is a vital resource in Australia, particularly Western Australia, as well as a key factor in the sustainability of both our society and the environment. Groundwater systems are complex with the distribution and dynamics of these systems controlled by a variety of physical, chemical and biological processes. Hydrogeologists aim to understand these processes and how they interact to contribute to the development of groundwater resources and their sustainable use for future generations. This unit gives students a basic level of understanding of hydrogeological systems. Students also develop skills in quantifying hydrogeological properties and processes. This practically focused unit is designed to give students the information they need to enter and be successful in the workforce across consultancy, resource exploitation, research and regulation. This unit is suitable for students in the Master of Hydrogeology as well as students in related environmental disciplines that would benefit from an understanding of groundwater systems.
