- This Indigenous design focused unit requires the demonstration of ability and acquired competence in critical intercultural planning, heritage management and design. In addition to addressing a design brief, students establish theoretical, aesthetic, critical and technical parameters that form the basis for an in-between or shared cultural design investigation. While projects may vary in scale and complexity they are required to incorporate the full range of knowledge and skills necessary to represent a design proposition. Projects of an experimental nature are encouraged, and the unit explores the creative pedagogies of the design studio as a means to investigate and represent cultural heritage related community based planning and design projects.
- Students are able to (1) develop a coherent Indigenous design related project brief; (2) respond effectively to the requirements set out in the project brief; (3) develop a sound theoretical basis and a high conceptual and design quality, with an appropriate level of conceptual and technical resolution, depending on the nature of the project; and (4) clearly and effectively communicate intercultural and shared design ideas.
- Typically this unit is assessed in the following ways: (1) participation and engagement assessments; (2) design folio presentation; and (3) design folio. Further information is available in the unit outline.
Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 overall and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course.

- This unit is recognised by the University as a service learning unit. Service learning refers
specifically to community engagement activities that are embedded in units of study, being structured
and assessed as formal educational experiences.
It is recommended that students take INDG3700 Sharing Space concurrently when this unit is available in the same teaching period.
