Content
This unit provides an introduction to partial differential equations, continuum mechanics, wave and diffusion models. It discusses the essential properties of these models and their solutions. The unit presents the archetypal examples from physics, industry and biology of these types of problems.
Outcomes
Students are able to (1) appreciate the important characteristics of biological, physical and industrial problems that are described by partial differential equations and (2) model and solve biological, physical and industrial problems through the use of partial differential equations.
Assessment
Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) test; (2) assignments; and (3) a final examination. Further information is available in the unit outline.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 overall and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course.
