Content Effective communication is fundamental to business productivity in an ever-changing, increasingly competitive global market. It is an integral operational component of any business organisation; consequently, successful business professionals must be proficient communicators to articulate and achieve business objectives.

This skill-based unit will teach students to write clear, cohesive business documents with a suitable register expressed using complex grammatical structures, specialised vocabulary and appropriate document mode. Students will also have the opportunity to integrate theoretical knowledge into real life business scenarios to further refine their communication skills.
Outcomes Students are able to (1) apply knowledge of linguistics to achieve coherence, cohesion and contextual appropriateness in writing and/or speaking; (2) read a variety of academic and /or business texts to critically analyse and evaluate genre-related communicative registers; (3) write clear, cohesive business texts using suitable register with appropriate grammatical structures, vocabulary and form; (4) apply advanced information literacy and reasoning skills to research and produce credible argumentation using evidence-based research; (5) participate in authentic business activities to collaborate with peers to achieve common
business objectives requiring judgements, complex problem-solving and reasoning skills; and (6) demonstrate advanced reasoning, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills.
Assessment Typically this unit is assessed in the following ways: (1) grammar tests; (2) project; and (3) mock interview and meeting. Further information is available in the unit outline.
