Content This unit deals with basic econometric issues and modelling skills such as hypothesis testing and statistical inference; correlation; the linear regression model; relaxing the assumptions of the classical linear regression model; forecasting; use of empirical examples to test hypotheses in economics and finance; and an introduction to the use of computer software packages.
Outcomes Students are able to (1) conduct preliminary analysis of economic and financial data; (2) construct cross-sectional or time series economic models; (3) perform and interpret the results from linear regressions; (4) perform statistics tests to check the robustness of econometric models; (5) be aware of the limitations of commonly used econometrics models; and (6) demonstrate self-management and independent learning skills.
Assessment Typically this unit is assessed in the following ways: (1) tutorial participation; (2) assignment; and (3) examination. Further information is available in the unit outline.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 overall and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course.
