Content In this unit, students explore the theoretical foundations of learning and teaching and critically discuss their roles as health professional teachers. They are assessed and given feedback on their teaching through performance and compare and contrast different teaching approaches. Students learn about curriculum development and, through analysis of successful innovations, gather examples relevant for their own health profession practice.
Outcomes Students are able to (1) discuss and apply adult learning educational principles; (2) discuss learning theories; (3) demonstrate knowledge of strategies to facilitate clinical teaching and learning; (4) compare and contrast different teaching approaches and learning styles; (5) demonstrate critical self-reflection skills as both a teacher and learner; and (6) discuss educational leadership in the context of the health professional.
Assessment Typically this unit is assessed in the following ways: (1) online activity 1 and design of a teaching philosophy; (2) online activity 2 and planning a learning activity; and (3) online activity 3, 4 and group presentation. Further information is available in the unit outline.
