|Content||This series of lectures introduces key theoretical issues pertinent to contemporary landscape architecture (that is, the ‘isms' and ‘ologies'), both in practice and scholarship, and relevant to research in its broad definition, especially with regard to issues of methodology and research practice. Lectures are accompanied by seminars devoted to current theories and themes. Seminars in the final weeks of term are designed to develop the student's own area of interest and a research essay which may be used in subsequent research-based units to assist in the formulation of a design project or dissertation.|
|Outcomes||Students are able to (1) reflect critically on a range of philosophical discourses, concepts and terms as these apply to contemporary projects and concerns; (2) use a range of research tools including forms of bibliographical searching, library and web-based resources to explore a range of issues and develop informed opinions about key projects and topical issues; (3) form arguments, research and write with a high degree of scholarship and intellectual rigour; and (4) produce a concise abstract leading to a written research project.|
