Unit Overview

Description

Building upon skills and knowledge from Level 1 Music Ensemble units, this unit focuses on the study of cultural and historical music performance practices in music ensembles. Students develop performance practice knowledge and skills and apply these in their chosen/approved ensemble (either an ensemble related to MUSC1982 Music Ensemble 2 or through the learning of new repertoire in the same ensemble*). Unit workshops focus on developing research skills and methods of studying performance practices in musical ensembles, broadly defined, supported by research literature relevant to the genre and style of repertoire performed in the student's chosen ensemble. Ensembles may be non-auditioned (e.g. Show Choir, Percussion Ensemble) or subject to audition (e.g. Symphony Orchestra, Winthrop Singers, Wind Orchestra, etc.). All ensembles perform at least once in public during the semester, either in the University or the wider community.

This unit is an elective unit in the Bachelor of Arts degree. It is also open to students enrolled in other degree pathways who have an interest in music.

*Availability of ensembles for the unit is subject to change. All ensembles may not run in every semester.
