Content This is the second unit of four in the Scholarly Activity (Service Learning): Aboriginal Health stream. In this practicum unit, students undertake a range of activities based in an Aboriginal health or health related organisation. They are required to take an active role in the organisation (documented 150 hours over the semester); describe and explain the organisation's mission, vision and goals and the relationship of these to supporting health and wellbeing within a community; articulate the strategies used by the organisation to meet its goals; identify a particular activity for their engagement (service) and collaboratively set goals for service activity; work as part of a team to provide service that the organisation confirms is useful in achieving its broader aims; and respond to community priorities and organisation feedback.
Outcomes Students are able to (1) describe the principles of Aboriginal self-determination and how they can be demonstrated in Aboriginal community organisations; (2) demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment in an Aboriginal community organisation; (3) concisely describe the aims and goals of the organisation with whom they are working; (4) effectively convey, in writing, the key strategies used in the Aboriginal organisation to achieve the organisation's aims and goals; and (5) describe the strategies in place within the placement organisation that enable ongoing health disparities to be addressed.
Assessment This comprises continuous assessment through host organisation evaluation, a summative written portfolio and a seminar presentation. There are no unit examinations.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit.
