Content This is a problem-based research project. With guidance, students individually choose a topic in the area of science communication. Students conduct a critical examination and review of the literature. Students access and search the scientific literature, critically read the scientific literature, complete a clear and concise literature review in a particular research field and display their understanding of the research methodology used in the research field.
Outcomes Students are able to (1) access and search the scholarly literature; (2) critically read the scholarly literature; (3) complete a clear and concise literature review in a particular research field; and (4) display their understanding of the research methodology used in the research field.
Assessment Typically this unit is assessed in the following ways: (1) preparation: a series of regular tasks that include preparing timelines, defining the research question, attending relevant library workshops, and submitting an outline of the review; (2) literature review: a 3000-word assignment based on a thorough and critical literature review of communication literature on a topic agreed upon by student and unit coordinator; and (3) seminar presentation. Further information is available in the unit outline.
