Content The issues addressed include advanced theories in motor control and skill acquisition concerning measurement of movement, central and sensory contributions to movement control, postural control and locomotion, motor decline with ageing and what students can learn from studying expert performers.
Outcomes Students are able to (1) acquire knowledge and capability to critically analyse movement, motor skill learning and the different approaches to their measurement; and (2) demonstrate an understanding of motor control theories underpinning movement control and skill acquisition and the application to movement assessment and intervention through reviewing literature for class presentations and their research project.
Assessment Typically this unit is assessed in the following ways: (1) student presentations (15 per cent); (2) a research project with a written component (30 per cent); (3) an oral component (15 per cent); and (4) an examination (40 per cent). Further information is available in the unit outline.

Prerequisites: enrolment in the Bachelor of Exercise Rehabilitation Science honours or postgraduate study in Sport Science, Exercise and Health; or the Graduate Diploma in Exercise Rehabilitation (50380); or the Master of Exercise Science (52510)
Advisable prior study: SSEH2240 Motor Learning and Control (formerly HMES2240); SSEH3345 Lifespan Motor Development (formerly HMES3345 Motor Skill Development); SSEH3385 Motor Development and Dysfunction (formerly HMES3385 Human Movement and Disability)
