Extended Major Overview

Description

Enterprise and Innovation is for students to develop their skills, knowledge and practical engagement with the principles of entrepreneurship and innovation in a local and global context. Students will develop solution-based skills to complex real world problems and learn to critically apply business solutions to them. Students will develop key attributes for employability through core principles of innovation, commercialisation and digital strategies necessary in today's workplace.

Outcomes

Students are able to:

  1. apply relevant knowledge and skills for managing innovation trajectories in existing firms as well as entrepreneurial processes in a start-up and scaling setting.
  2. develop an enduring capacity for framing and solving complex business problems by a focused evidence-based approach rooted in entrepreneurial inquiry.
  3. be a proactive communicator, open to feedback from a broad range of stakeholders and critical in your interpretation of diverse cues.
  4. promote an innovation culture and work effectively in (self)-managed teams.
  5. reflect independently on concepts and frameworks, be mindful of context and insights for local application and adaptation.
  6. integrate social, ethical, cultural and sustainability aspects as an essential component in strategy formulation for start-ups and existing firms..
Broadening guidelines

All students studying towards a Bachelor's Degree at UWA are required to Broaden their studies by completing a minimum of four units (24 points) of study outside their degree specific major. Broadening is your opportunity to explore other areas of interest, investigate new disciplines and knowledge paradigms and to shape your degree to suit your own aspirations and interests. Many of you will be able to undertake more than this minimum amount of broadening study and we encourage you to do so if this suits your aspirations. Over the next few months you will find here some broadening suggestions related to your degree-specific major. While we know that many students value guidance of this sort, these are only suggestions and students should not lose sight of the opportunity to explore that is afforded by your Broadening Choices. Advice can also be sought from your Allocated Student Advising Office.
