Minor Overview

About this minor
Studying French language and culture will open your mind to the rich cultural diversity of one of the world's major international languages. Spoken on five continents and in main international organisations such as the UN, French is particularly relevant for Australia, given its strategic location in surrounding areas like the Pacific and Indian Ocean. The French minor will give students functional levels of competency in French and excellent communicative and intercultural skills. It will enrich students with a knowledge of history, contemporary society, enable them to engage in real-world issues, and open up new ways of interacting in the world. Completion of this minor gives students the equivalent of Level A2/B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL), the internationally recognised standard of language competence in European languages. This minor is for beginners and is incompatible with a pass in ATAR French. For students taking a minor which shares units with their other unit sets (majors or minors): in order for minors to be recognised on academic and graduation documents, students may only have a maximum of one unit overlapping between their unit sets.
