Unit Overview

Description

This unit explores art and the environment through time-based and socially-engaged art. Students build on the conceptual knowledge and technical skills already acquired and extend their specialisation by engaging a wide array of time-based methods, including performance and social practice. In this structured studio-based unit, students produce projects within an environmental context, ultimately working towards developing an independent work practice and initiating their own projects. Student work produced in both the studio and in the field is supported by engaging texts which examine issues in environmental art through a social lens. Students expand their knowledge by participating in group critiques, class discussions and field trips. This is the second unit in the Art & Environment specialisation for students enrolled in the Fine Arts Major.
