Unit Overview

Description

This unit introduces students to the history, politics and socio-cultural context of French Polynesia. It allows participants to explore the colonial past of French Polynesia, to analyse the notion of ‘common destiny' and debate these notions for the various peoples of Polynesia. Students travel to Tahiti for two weeks for an intensive cultural and language experience and research. While in-country, students will attend various lectures by experts from the University of French Polynesia and engage with the local community.

This unit is offered with the support of the Australian government's New Colombo Plan (NCP) funding initiative and as such the associated costs for travel related expenses are partly covered.
