Applicability of the Student Rules, policies and procedures
8.2.4.1(1) The Student Rules in the Student Procedures, Rules and Policies section apply to students in this course.
(2) The policies and procedures in the Student Procedures, Rules and Policies section apply except as otherwise indicated in the rules for this course.
Applicability of the Faculty general provisions for bachelor’s degrees
8.2.4.2 The Faculty general provisions for bachelor’s degrees in 8.2.1 apply to the course for the Bachelor of Health Science pass degree.
Course structure
8.2.4.3(1) The course consists of units to a minimum total value of 192 points and a maximum total value of 216 points comprising—
(a) Level 1 units to the value of 36 points from Groups A and B in Table 8.2.4b (Bachelor of Health Science pass degree options) including units to the value of at least 12 points and no more than 18 points from Group A and units to the value of at least 18 points from Group B;
and
(b) subject to (2) and (3), units from Groups B and C in Table 8.2.4b (Bachelor of Health Science pass degree options) to make up a total of at least 48 points from Level 1 units;1
and
(c) the Public Health major sequence (48 or 54 points) comprising—
(i) all units in Table 8.2.4c (Bachelor of Health Science pass degree Public Health major sequence core units)—36 points
and
(ii) at least two units from Table 8.2.4d (Bachelor of Health Science pass degree Public Health major sequence options)—at least 12 points
and
(d) all units in Table 8.2.4a (Bachelor of Health Science pass degree core units)—30 points
and
(e) the units comprising at least one of the following majors—2
Anatomy and Human Biology
Anthropology—subject to (4)
Biochemistry
Computer Science—subject to (4)
Genetics
Geography—subject to (4)
Microbiology
Pathology
Pharmacology
Physiology
Psychological Studies—subject to (4)
Sport Science, Exercise and Healthand
(f) Subject to (4), Level 2 units to a maximum value of 30 points chosen from those offered by the Faculty of Science including the Level 2 units specified in the major sequence for the Science major(s) chosen under (e);
and
(g) one unit from either Table 8.2.4d (Bachelor of Health Science pass degree Public Health major sequence options) or Group D in Table 8.2.4b (Bachelor of Health Science pass degree options)—6 points
and
(h) subject to (3), electives if necessary to make up the balance of points required for the course.
(2) The value of Level 1 units included in the course must be at least 48 points but must not exceed 60 points.
(3) Students must complete Level 1 or 2 units offered by the UWA Business School to a value of at least 12 points.
(4) Students who intend to major in Anthropology, Computer Science, Geography or Psychological Studies must complete PHYL2001 Physiology of Human Body Systems or PATH2201 Introduction to Human Disease or ANHB2212 Human Structure and Development.
1 When choosing Level 1 units, students should bear in mind the major sequence for the Science major(s) chosen under (e). Major sequences are set out in 9.2.6 of the Faculty of Science Rules.

Restrictions on points from units of a particular level or in a subject
8.2.4.4 The Faculty of Science Rules which govern the number of points that may be counted towards the Bachelor of Science (50110) course from units of a particular level or in a particular subject apply to the Bachelor of Health Science course.
Admissions and Progress Committee
8.2.4.5(1) There is an Admissions and Progress Committee for the course comprising—
the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, or nominee;
the Head of the School of Population Health, or nominee;
the Dean of the Faculty of Science, or nominee;
the Dean of the UWA Business School, or nominee;
the Dean of the Faculty of Law, or nominee;
the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, or nominee;
the Sub-Dean (Health Sciences); and
the Manager (Student Affairs) of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.
(2) The Admissions and Progress Committee has delegated authority to act as the Board of Examiners for the course.
Variation to enrolment
8.2.4.6 In exceptional circumstances, the Faculty, on the recommendation of the Admissions and Progress Committee, may permit variations to enrolment.
Overload
8.2.4.7 Faculty of Science Rule 9.2.1.2 applies to overload in the Bachelor of Health Science.
Credit
8.2.4.8(1) The Admissions and Progress Committee may grant credit towards the course up to a maximum of 72 points.
(2) If credit is granted for units passed through Continuing Education it will be for Level 1 and 2 units only and will not exceed 24 points.

Assessment, examination and appeals guidelines
8.2.4.9 The assessment, examination and appeals guidelines for the Bachelor of Science (50110) apply to the course, unless the Admissions and Progress Committee determines otherwise in exceptional circumstances.
Successive failures in units
8.2.4.11 Faculty of Science Rule 9.2.2.7 applies to successive failures in units in the Bachelor of Health Science.
Progress status
8.2.4.13 Faculty of Science Rule 9.2.1.3 applies to progress status in the Bachelor of Health Science.
Application for award of Bachelor of Science
8.2.4.14 Students who withdraw from the course before completing the requirements of the Bachelor of Health Science but after completing the requirements of the Bachelor of Science (50110) may apply to the Faculty of Science—
(a) to be awarded the Bachelor of Science (50110);1
or
(b) for admission to the course for the Bachelor of Science (50110) with honours.
1 Students must complete all the requirements for the Bachelor of Science (50110) in order to take out the degree. They should contact the Faculty Science to establish the requirements of the Bachelor of Science (50110) degree at the commencement of the course.
Course for students transferring from the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery course
Admission
8.2.4.15 Students who withdraw from the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery course before completing all of the requirements of the course but after completing at least the Level 1, 2 and 3 units may, with the approval of the Faculty, be permitted to transfer to the Bachelor of Health Science course.
Course structure
8.2.4.16 Students who have been permitted to transfer to the Bachelor of Health Science course under Rule 8.2.4.15 must complete units to the value of 60 or 66 points, as appropriate, comprising—
(a) all units in Table 8.2.4e (Bachelor of Health Science pass degree course for students transferring from MB BS core units)—42 points
and
(b)(i) for students who have completed the Level 1 to 4 units for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, two units from Table 8.2.4f (Bachelor of Health Science pass degree course for students transferring from MB BS options)—12 points
or
(ii) for students who have completed the Level 1 to 3 units for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, three units from Table 8.2.4f (Bachelor of Health Science pass degree course for students transferring from MB BS options)—18 points
and
(c) a Level 1 or 2 unit offered by the UWA Business School—6 points.
Credit
8.2.4.17 Students who are permitted to transfer from the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery course under Rule 8.2.4.15 are credited with—
(a) a major in Medical Science1 to the value of 84 points which comprises medical science units from Table 8.2.2a (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery core units) as follows—
Level 1 units to the value of 28 points;
Level 2 units to the value of 28 points;
Level 3 units to the value of 28 points;and
(b)(i) for students who have completed the Level 1 to 4 units of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery course, public health and health industry related units to the value of 18 points; or
(ii) for students who have completed the Level 1 to 3 units of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery course, public health and health industry related units to the value of 12 points;
and
(c) units completed in the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery course to the value of 30 points.

8.2.4.18 Rules 8.2.4.5, 8.2.4.6, 8.2.4.9, 8.2.4.11 and 8.2.4.13 apply to students who are transferring from the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery course.
