Extended Major Overview
- Description
Media and communication industries and professions are perpetually evolving and being disrupted by new technologies and techniques. This course provides applied learning opportunities and skills for students interested in directly working in media and communication industries. Developed around core concepts of ideation, engagement, and impact, the degree offers a structured and agile development pathway that incorporates many industry facing activities for students with a career minded focus in media production, journalism, strategic communication, and digital storytelling. The interdisciplinary focus of the program presents students with a unique learning environment designed to function across different professional areas. This equips graduates with versatile skills and knowledge in media development and analysis to meet the challenges of the dynamic and evolving landscape of digital culture in which responsible and high-level communication will be key to success.
Students should be aware that this major does not provide a pathway to an Honours.- Outcomes
Students are able to:
- identify the evolving roles and applications of media and communication in Australia, Asia-Pacific and the World
- engage with media and communication technologies, processes and techniques through creative, critical and reflective thinking and practice
- interpret, evaluate and communicate complex ideas and issues across audiences, platforms and professional contexts
- work independently and collaboratively to ideate, design, develop and evaluate media projects and endeavours
- act with accountability and responsibility in personal and professional practice and settings, taking into consideration differing social, cultural, and ethical values and protocols
- demonstrate intellectual leadership and digital competencies through reflective practice to foster meaningful engagement and collaborations in the field.
