Honours in Accounting
Honours in Accounting at the Business School is a rigorous program intended for high-performing students with an undergraduate Accounting major. Considered one of the flagship programs in the Business School, it will introduce you to research in accounting and will allow you to develop research skills and capabilities in the area. You will be required to complete four coursework units and a dissertation. The accounting dissertation is a highlight of the program, enabling you to demonstrate the research skills and knowledge you have acquired. Classes are small and you will have the opportunity to work with up to two research supervisors who are experts in the field. The majority of graduates look for careers in professional accounting firms and industry while a small number go on to enrol in a PhD program and become academics.
Outcomes: Students are able to (1) demonstrate coherent and advanced knowledge of the underlying principles and concepts in accounting; (2) demonstrate knowledge of research principles and methods; (3) apply advanced accounting knowledge to evaluate business performance and to solve complex problems; and (4) communicate effectively and succinctly the results of financial analysis.
Entry requirements: the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 75 per cent in the Level 3 units of the Accounting major.
