Honours Overview

Description
Note: this honours specialisation is not available for new enrolments in 2025.

The proposed Honours program is designed to equip students with the advanced knowledge and skills necessary to become industry-ready Landscape Architects. This offers students the opportunity to critically analyse, evaluate, and synthesise information to complete a range of professional tasks. Students will develop the ability to generate and communicate solutions to complex problems, share knowledge and ideas effectively, and apply relevant methods and technologies in alignment with the accreditation standards set by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA). This program builds on recognised undergraduate pathways at UWA or equivalent institutions. The degree adopts a two-pronged approach: 1. A focused curriculum comprising professionally oriented units. 2. Comprehensive research training at the AQF Level 8, including the completion of a substantial scholarly research 'capstone' project to support further academic or professional development.
Outcomes

Students are able to (1) develop projects that take a philosophical and ethical position in regard to the ecological, aesthetic and sociopolitical roles of landscape

architecture; (2) apply historical, theoretical and technical knowledge to design; (3) produce designs which illustrate a working knowledge of plants, materials and construction techniques; (4) analyse and resolve complex site planning issues and developmental programs; (5) demonstrate and implement active engagement with experimental design processes and self-directed research and discipline-specific research methodologies; (6) demonstrate productive and collaborative approaches to learning and assessment; and (7) demonstrate sophisticated verbal, visual and written communication techniques.

Entry requirements

A weighted average mark of at least 70 per cent in the MJD-LDARC Landscape Architecture Studies major; or equivalent, as determined by the relevant board.
