Honours Overview

Description

In Honours in Population Health, you will complete a research project under supervision and undertake relevant research training units. You will engage in scholarly activities of the School of Population Health and more broadly within the University. Successful completion of this honours specialisation will provide you with the prerequisite knowledge and skills to proceed to enrolment in a higher degree by research. Alternatively, Honours in Population Health prepares you for careers in the health industry that require superior research skills and advanced problem solving and communication skills.

Outcomes

Students are able to (1) demonstrate independent research skills; (2) develop a research question/hypothesis; (3) retrieve literature appropriate to a topic; (4) critically appraise existing scientific literature relevant to research topic; (5) construct justifable research methods; (6) implement a research strategy; (7) demonstrate scholarly communication of research aims, methods, results and interpretations; (8) interpret research results within a broader public health context; (9) discuss the ethical implications associated with research; (10) effectively perform the reseach project; and (11) generate appropriate responses to expert feedback.

Entry requirements

The equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 70 per cent in the Level 3 units in the Population Health major or Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing (or other equivalent major as approved by the SPGH Learning and Teaching Committee).
