Honours Overview
- Description
Honours in Earth Science provides you with an opportunity to undertake coursework units with direct application to developing sustainable resources in Western Australia as well as a 24-point research project. As a graduate you will be well positioned to find employment in the resources industries (e.g. in energy, minerals or groundwater) and environmental geoscience fields. The honours specialisation will strengthen and expand the knowledge and skills you gained during your undergraduate degree and will provide experience in completing a major research project which requires high-level scientific writing and oral presentation skills. An honours degree may also lead you to the completion of a higher degree by research and further employment opportunities in industry, university, or government research organisations.
- Outcomes
Students are able to (1) demonstrate understanding of Earth Science concepts across a range of topics; (2) demonstrate ability to synthesise and integrate geoscientific data; and (3) demonstrate high level technical skills applied to geoscience.
- Entry requirements
A weighted average mark of at least 65 percent in the Level 3 units of the Geology or Marine and Coastal Processes majors, or equivalent, as recognised by UWA
- Intake periods
Beginning of year and mid-year
- Courses
Honours in Earth Science can be taken as a specialisation in the following degrees:
