Unit Overview

Description

This unit is designed for students undertaking the Chemistry Major and helps to show how chemistry plays an essential role in society. Lectures will be provided by guest speakers from leading chemical industries in Western Australia who will provide context to the Chemistry that students have learnt during their undergraduate degree and its role in these industries.

The remaining content allows students to undertake a research project under the guidance of an academic mentor. Enrolment into this unit is by special approval from the chemistry major coordinator or unit coordinator. Students will be invited to express an interest in enrolling in this unit. If there are more applications than research places available, students will be selected based on their WAM from level 2 chemistry units or at the discretion of the chemistry major coordinator or unit coordinator.

Students will be exposed to the theory and practice of research within the discipline. Students will develop research skills appropriate to the discipline through participation in research activities which may include, but are not limited to: specialized reading courses, project design, laboratory work, data collection and analysis, report writing and other relevant activities.

This unit will be offered from 2025
