Unit Overview

Description

This unit provides students with an opportunity for specialised research-driven study of industry-relevant issues in strategic communication. By working closely with communication experts, students are introduced to emerging professional practices and develop advanced skills and knowledge in strategic communication. The unit is designed to leverage the specialist skills and expertise of existing and visiting academic staff. The unit will have a different topic focus relevant to theoretical, methodological and/or ethical issues and fast-changing developments in strategic communication, with the content advertised before each teaching period to enable students to decide whether the topic focus aligns with their interests. Three hypothetical examples are provided to indicate the flexibility of the unit:

1) Generative AI and Strategic Communication: a topic focused on recent developments in GenAI technologies and the

scope of their ethical applications to strategic communication and organisational goals

2) Reputation and Image Management: a topic focused on the personal, professional, and organisational strategies of

creating and maintaining reputations

3) Stakeholder Engagement: a topic focused on the theory and practice of stakeholder engagement
