Unit Overview

Description

This MBA elective unit is concerned with project management, and for managers and strategic leaders of individual projects, as programs for realising strategic change objectives and outcomes, and as a portfolio for executing strategy. It covers life cycles of project, program and portfolio management, from idea, business case, program and portfolio development, through to delivery and realisation of strategic benefits and value for stakeholders. Projects and strategic initiatives are increasingly bridging the gap between strategy to execution, complementary to strategic management and organisational change and transformation. The unit addresses challenges of accelerating change, globalisation, competition, and complexity; digital disruption and transformation; the emergence of artificial intelligence and machine learning; the future of projectised work; and the agility sought by organisations seeking to thrive and contribute to sustainable development. Topics covered may include: project, program and portfolio standards, practices and tools; agile projects and programs, at scale; their frameworks, life cycles, governance, assurance, practice maturity, ethics, sustainability, and benefits realisation; and the combination of project management, leadership, and strategy and business acumen that project managers and strategic leaders must cultivate to succeed and deliver value for their organisations and society.
