ANHB5457 Advanced Competencies in Sleep Science

- This unit consists of six modules: (1) advanced sleep disorders; (2) advanced therapies; (3) advanced monitoring; (4) advanced technology; (5) sleep laboratory management I; and (6) sleep laboratory management II.
- Students are able to (1) describe the pathophysiology, assessment and treatment of a number of complex sleep disorders and their relationship with other medical conditions; (2) critically review the suitability of existing and novel therapies for the treatment of respiratory sleep disorders; (3) summarise the advantages and limitations of existing technologies and monitoring platforms available for physiological monitoring during sleep; (4) outline financial, personnel management, rostering and Medicare/health insurance considerations for sleep laboratory management; and (5) describe techniques of evaluating and maintaining quality sleep assessment and treatment services.
- Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) online quizzes and (2) a final online examination. Further information is available in the unit outline.
