Unit Overview

Description

This unit is an introduction to comprehensive oral clinical examination involving the disciplines of Prosthodontics, Orthodontics, Periodontics and Endodontics as well as Cariology and Radiology. The topics covered include occlusion in permanent teeth, elements required for a comprehensive oral clinical examination, biomaterials used for direct coronal restorations, and single and two surface tooth restorations.

Outcomes

Students are able to (1) module 1 - Describe the normal occlusion in permanent teeth; (2) module 1 - Describe the elements required for a comprehensive oral clinical examination; (3) module 2 - describe the biomaterials used for direct coronal restorations; (4) module 2 - Execute single-surface tooth restorations; and (5) module 2 - Execute two or more surface tooth restorations.

Assessment

Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) OSCE

SLO 3,4, 5; (2) written assessment

SLO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5; and (3) practical I

SLO 4, 5. Further information is available in the unit outline.

To pass this unit, a student must: (a) achieve an overall mark of 50 per cent or higher for the unit; and (b) achieve the requisite requirements(s) or a mark of 50 per cent or greater, whichever is higher and specified in the unit outline, for the written assessment SLO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and practical I SLO 4, 5 components.

Student may be offered supplementary assessment in this unit if they meet the eligibility criteria.

Books can be purchased second hand at the Guild Secondhand bookshop (second floor, Guild Village), which is located on campus.
