Unit Overview
- Description
This dissertation unit extends over the three-year duration of the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry course. The research and dissertation foster the development of research skills in the area of orthodontics while under supervision. It provides students with experience and practice in defining a clear research question, preparing a formal research proposal, conducting a review of a body of scientific literature and formal writing at a professional standard.

Students are able to (1) undertake a research project and write a dissertation in a research area of their choice that is relevant to their clinical specialty and training and that has been approved by their supervisor. Students are encouraged to undertake research projects that are suitable for publication in the professional literature.; (2) identify the aim(s) of the research project; (3) broadly sketch the context within which the research is located; (4) review the relevant literature; (5) identify how the research was performed and how the data were collected and analysed;
This is assessed by external examiners and results are recorded as a mark; and (6) and discuss the results in the context of clinical practice, further research and the literature in general..

- a Bachelor of Dental Science of this University or equivalent.
a pass in the Primary examinations of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons or equivalent.
and at least two years' full-time equivalent experience in general dental practice - Co-requisites
- Students are required to be registered with the Dental Board of Australia for the duration of the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (90840).
- The availability of units in Semester 1, 2, etc. was correct at the time of publication but may be subject to change.

Students are recommended to purchase Essential Textbooks, but a limited number of copies of all Essential Textbooks are held in the Library in print, and as an ebook where possible. Online flexible
100% Online Unit. NO campus face-to-face attendance is required to complete this unit. All study requirements are online only. Unit is asynchronous delivery, with NO requirement for students to participate online at specific times.
Online timetabled
100% Online Unit. NO campus face-to-face attendance is required to complete this unit. All study requirements are online only. Unit includes some synchronous components, with a requirement for students to participate online at specific times.
Online Restricted
Not available for self-enrolment. Students access this mode by contacting their student office through AskUWA. 100% Online Unit.
NO campus face-to-face attendance. All study and assessment requirements are online only. Unit includes some timetabled activities, with a requirement for students to participate online at specific times. In exceptional cases (noted in the Handbook) students may be required to participate in face-to-face laboratory classes when a return to UWA’s Crawley campus becomes possible in order to be awarded a final grade.
External
No attendance or regular contact is required, and all study requirements are completed either via correspondence and/or online submission.
Off-campus
Regular attendance is not required, but student attends the institution face to face on an agreed schedule for purposes of supervision and/or instruction.
Multi-mode
Multiple modes of delivery. Unit includes a mix of online and on-campus study requirements. On campus attendance for some activities is required to complete this unit.
