Unit Overview

Description

Honours research involves the application of principles and theory to shed light on particular economic relationships, issues and policies. The dissertations in financial economics will generally involve the rigorous application of advanced modelling and data analysis techniques and economic evaluation methods to test economic relationships and/or formally to investigate complex issues in policy formulation. This unit is one of four dissertation units to be taken over two semesters. All four parts must be completed to fulfil the requirements of the degree. Students may commence the unit in either semester 1 or semester 2.

Outcomes

Students are able to (1) undertake an in-depth investigation of a financial economic issue, where the issue may be theoretical, applied, historical or policy-oriented.; (2) develop competency in advanced economic theory concerning financial economics.; (3) critically review high-level research on financial economics and its various applications towards the identification of gaps in the literature that warrant further investigation.; (4) apply data analysis techniques to research complex financial and economic issues.; and (5) use the appropriate research methods for the particular aims and objectives in writing a large dissertation..

Assessment

Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: dissertation (continuous assessment with a final mark awarded at the completion of dissertation, parts 1 to 4). Further information is available in the unit outline.
