Unit Overview

Description

In this unit, pre-service teachers will develop an understanding of how to evaluate interventions and programs to support mental health and wellbeing of children at the primary school level.

A range of individual and class-based approaches to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing will be discussed. Pre-service teachers will examine the evidence base supporting interventions and programs. Pre-service teachers will be introduced to concepts and methods for evaluating mental health and wellbeing programs, so that they can (a) interrogate and analyse existing evidence-based programs and (b) evaluate the impact of programs and interventions within classroom settings.

Pre-service teachers will also be introduced to research designs that can be used to evaluate and measure the outcomes of a classroom-based intervention, and how to interpret the outcomes of an intervention.
