Unit Overview

Description

This unit represents the equivalent of one semester of part-time research, working towards a research training qualification in the field of Emergency Medicine. Students undertake an independent research project under the direct supervision of experienced clinical researcher(s) in this area.

Research projects may be clinical, laboratory based, or may involve epidemiological or biostatistical analysis. Research projects must be designed to demonstrate the learning outcomes described below.

Outcomes

Students are able to (1) apply appropriate analytical skills to research project data; (2) develop critical interpretation skills in the context of existing literature; (3) develop written communication skills in a concise scientific format; and (4) develop oral communication skills and ability to defend research findings.

Assessment

Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) draft research paper or report; (2) research seminar and oral defence; and (3) research diary or workbook, supervisor report. Further information is available in the unit outline.



This unit is assessed on an ungraded pass/ungraded failed basis. All assessment items must be successfully completed.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit.
