- This unit provides an opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience of ecotourism research under expert supervision. Students are able to demonstrate their skills in topic selection, in investigating the background context of their chosen project, in research design and implementation, in analysis, reporting writing and oral presentation. Students also prepare an application for human ethics approval to conduct research. The unit culminates in the submission of a literature review, a human ethics application and a scientific paper suitable for submission to a peer reviewed journal.
- Students are able to (1) conduct a literature review on a specific topic in ecotourism, demonstrating the ability to critically analyse and correctly reference the work of others; (2) understand the legal and ethical issues that are likely to be encountered when carrying out a project in the field of ecotourism; (3) plan and execute a research project in the field of ecotourism; (4) collect, record, analyse and critically interpret scientific data derived from their research project; and (5) write up work in the form of a high quality scientific paper suitable for submission to a peer reviewed journal.
- Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) a human ethics proposal; (2) a literature review; and (3) a dissertation. Further information is available in the unit outline.
