Unit Overview

Description

This unit is concerned with the design, planning and improvement of an organisation's systems or processes involved in the production of goods and services. It provides an introduction to operations and strategic supply chain management. Specifically, it provides students with the knowledge to enhance their understanding of the nature and contribution of operations management, supply chain management and procurement functions at a professional level. An important issue is the place of supply chain management in improving market share, increasing customer satisfaction and generating a competitive edge.

Outcomes

Students are able to (1) communicate both orally and in writing the necessary and fundamental operations management concepts that align an organisation's supply chain strategy with their broader competitive business strategy; (2) critically apply stakeholder theory to managing buyer and supplier relationships in a multi-tier supply chain with a specific focus on sustainable operations management practice; (3) demonstrate analytical problem solving skills through the application of mathematical models used to solve complex operations management and supply chain problems the frequently occur in industry; and (4) critically evaluate an organisations operations management practices, processes, and capabilities and identify practical improvements that enhance the firm's operations and supply chain performance.

Assessment

Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) team activities; (2) case discussions; and (3) final assessment. Further information is available in the unit outline.



Student may be offered supplementary assessment in this unit if they meet the eligibility criteria.
