Description

The Internationally Qualified Registered Nurse (IQRN) Preparatory Program is a unit of study that aims to support IQRNs with theoretical preparation and simulation-based education that will enable them to function and perform in the Australian health care system. The program is developmental and aimed at preparing students for academic writing and professional practice through introduction to Australian nursing practice and regulatory standards.

The program has two components:

1. A one-week, full-time (37.5 hours), face-to-face simulation learning, inclusive of simulated acquisition of clinical skills assessment, and;

2. 20 hours of workshops scheduled across the first semester of study, providing learning activities and academic support. The workshops are a combination of on-campus classes or online synchronous and asynchronous activities, covering referencing, academic writing, placement preparation, reflective and interprofessional practice, as well as information relating to student support services.

Outcomes

Students are able to (1) demonstrate competency in clinical skills within a simulated environment, adhering to Australian safety and quality standards. and (2) Interpret and apply professional standards, regulations, and guidelines relevant to nursing practice within the Australian healthcare context.

To pass this unit, a student must: (a) achieve an overall mark of 50 per cent or higher for the unit; and (b) achieve the requisite requirements(s) or a mark of 50 per cent or greater, whichever is higher and specified in the unit outline, for the simulated acquisition of clinical skills. component.

This unit is assessed on an ungraded pass/ungraded failed basis. All assessment items must be successfully completed.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit.
