Unit Overview

Description

This unit represents the equivalent of three semesters of full-time research (six semesters (part-time), working towards a final thesis in the field of child health. Students undertake an independent research project under the direct supervision of experienced clinical researcher(s) in this area.

Research projects may be clinical, laboratory based, or may involve epidemiological or biostatistical analysis. Research projects must be designed to demonstrate the learning outcomes described below.

Outcomes

Students are able to (1) critically review and synthesise the relevant literature; (2) develop workable hypotheses or research questions; (3) design and conduct experiments to appropriately test hypotheses or research questions; (4) analyse and critically interprete their own data in the context of existing literature; and (5) disseminate the outcomes of their research in written and oral formats.

This unit is assessed on an ungraded pass/ungraded failed basis. All assessment items must be successfully completed.
