Unit Overview

Description

Advanced Clinical Practice Dissertation Parts 1 and 2 combined represent the equivalent of one semester of full-time study. Both parts must be completed to fulfil the requirements of the two units.

The units involve original research by the student under supervision. Students will practice and gain experience in defining a clear research question, preparing a formal research protocol, conducting a review of a body of scientific literature and formal writing at a professional standard. Students will prepare a manuscript for submission to their targeted journal.

Outcomes

Students are able to (1) define a clear research question and develop a research proposal; (2) conduct a literature review with appropriate analysis and interpretation; (3) prepare and submit an ethics application or application for an exemption; and (4) conduct research independently with supervision with the preparation of a written manuscript.

Assessment

Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) assessment continuing in the next unit (PHCY5159) and (2) approved ethics application or exemption. Further information is available in the unit outline.

To pass this unit, a student must: (a) achieve an overall mark of 50 per cent or higher for the unit; and (b) achieve the requisite requirements(s) or a mark of 50 per cent or greater, whichever is higher and specified in the unit outline, for the approved ethics application or exemption component.

Student may be offered supplementary assessment in this unit if they meet the eligibility criteria.
