Unit Overview

Description

Students will apply evidence-based and scientific methods to psychological assessment across the lifespan using empirically validated and culturally responsive methods, including for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Students will also learn to interpret, implement, and communicate psychological assessment findings in different formats and contexts to reflect the sociocultural diversity of clients.

Outcomes

Students are able to (1) describe the purpose and administration procedures of a range of psychological tests used across therapeutic settings and with different cultures; (2) evaluate the psychometric properties and utility of psychological tests in assessments conducted in therapeutic settings; (3) demonstrate skills in the administration and scoring of psychological tests; (4) accurately interpret psychological test results and evaluate their implications taking into account developmental and cultural issues; and (5) demonstrate knowledge of professional and ethical psychological assessment and the role of developmental, cultural issues in assessment.

Assessment

Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) viva voce

; (2) cognitive report; and (3) test. Further information is available in the unit outline.

To pass this unit, a student must: (a) achieve an overall mark of 50 per cent or higher for the unit; and (b) achieve the requisite requirements(s) or a mark of 50 per cent or greater, whichever is higher and specified in the unit outline, for the viva voce , cognitive report, and test components.

Student may be offered supplementary assessment in this unit if they meet the eligibility criteria.
