Unit Overview

Description

This unit builds on the progress made in SPAN1403 Spanish Studies 3 and aims to extend grammatical knowledge and communicative skills, both written and oral. It further develops the students' ability to communicate in Spanish by providing intensive practice in oral and written language, and enriches students' understanding of the culture of modern Spain.

Students achieve language proficiency equivalent to Level A2/B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Outcomes

Students are able to (1) speak, listen, read and write in Spanish about a diverse range of topics; (2) demonstrate correct application of Spanish grammar; (3) read and comprehend texts from contemporary literary and non-literary sources; (4) demonstrate their understanding of how language works in general (metalinguistic skills); and (5) develop interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively in pairs and small groups.

Assessment

Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) language exercises; (2) class participation; and (3) tests. Further information is available in the unit outline.



Student may be offered supplementary assessment in this unit if they meet the eligibility criteria.
