SSEH5644 Neurological Rehabilitation

- The unit focuses on the knowledge, skills and clinical evidence around the design, development and delivery of therapeutic interventions for clients with neurological conditions and comorbidities.
The unit will be assessed using a combination of blended learning assessment and feedback, incorporating theoretical and practical elements, problem-based learning, case study analysis, and simulated learning modes.
- Students are able to (1) analyse foundation knowledge related to neurological conditions and the assessment, prescription and delivery of therapeutic interventions; (2) evaluate potentially adverse responses during therapy, and demonstrate the ability to set up a safe environment for the neurological client; (3) analyse knowledge of evidence-based practice in neurological rehabilitation; and (4) demonstrate an advanced level of understanding of the multidisciplinary neurological care environment.
- Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) theory exam; (2) course workbook; and (3) skills and safe practice assessment. Further information is available in the unit outline.
To pass this unit, a student must: (a) achieve an overall mark of 50 per cent or higher for the unit; and (b) achieve the requisite requirements(s) or a mark of 50 per cent or greater, whichever is higher and specified in the unit outline, for the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) component.
Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit.

- The lectures, laboratories and seminars occur in two 3-week intensive blocks (at the beginning and end of semester), leaving an 8-week space in between for industry placements. These intensive teaching blocks require students' presence on campus full-time.
