Unit Overview

Description

This unit introduces social policy and practice from a local, national and global perspective. Students will explore vulnerable populations, stigma and discrimination, and the importance of working alongside some of society's most disadvantaged groups in a person-centred, strength-based, relationship-focused way. This unit will also focus on diversity, equity and inclusion and the relevancy of this concept as it applies to contemporary policy development, human rights frameworks and current legislation. Particular emphasis will be given to people experiencing homelessness, people living with disability/s, the aging population, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, refugee and migrant populations, individuals experiencing incarceration, and socially disadvantaged youth.
