Unit Overview
- Description
This unit develops students' awareness of the core drivers behind their own career plan. Through the application of design thinking principles, exploration of labour market drivers and the formulation of a personal strategic career plan, students will develop a professional brand and career management strategies. The unit is delivered in three asynchronous modules.
Module #1: Discovering Career Context
Students will critically analyse how global social, cultural and technological trends define and change labour-market requirements. Students will analyse sector demands and career pathways in the context of global organisation needs and personal determining factors.
Module #2: Design Thinking for Career Development
Students will adopt design-thinking methodologies to identify and define personal meaning, purpose and impact in the context of career development. Students will develop, test and refine multiple personal career pathways through an iterative process using peer feedback.
Module #3: Strategic Career Planning and Brand Development
Students will connect personal skills, interests, values, attributes and aspirations to create an actionable career plan. Students will create a cohesive brand portfolio including application documents aligned to their career plan.
The unit is intended to be taken throughout the calendar year to fit around work and study schedules.

This unit is assessed on an ungraded pass/ungraded failed basis. All assessment items must be successfully completed.Student may be offered supplementary assessment in this unit if they meet the eligibility criteria.

Online flexible
100% Online Unit. NO campus face-to-face attendance is required to complete this unit. All study requirements are online only. Unit is asynchronous delivery, with NO requirement for students to participate online at specific times.
Online timetabled
100% Online Unit. NO campus face-to-face attendance is required to complete this unit. All study requirements are online only. Unit includes some synchronous components, with a requirement for students to participate online at specific times.
Online Restricted
Not available for self-enrolment. Students access this mode by contacting their student office through AskUWA. 100% Online Unit.
NO campus face-to-face attendance. All study and assessment requirements are online only. Unit includes some timetabled activities, with a requirement for students to participate online at specific times. In exceptional cases (noted in the Handbook) students may be required to participate in face-to-face laboratory classes when a return to UWA’s Crawley campus becomes possible in order to be awarded a final grade.
External
No attendance or regular contact is required, and all study requirements are completed either via correspondence and/or online submission.
Off-campus
Regular attendance is not required, but student attends the institution face to face on an agreed schedule for purposes of supervision and/or instruction.
