Unit Overview

Description

This unit develops students' awareness of the core drivers behind their own career plan. Through the application of design thinking principles, exploration of labour market drivers and the formulation of a personal strategic career plan, students will develop a professional brand and career management strategies. The unit is delivered in three asynchronous modules.

Module #1: Discovering Career Context

Students will critically analyse how global social, cultural and technological trends define and change labour-market requirements. Students will analyse sector demands and career pathways in the context of global organisation needs and personal determining factors.

Module #2: Design Thinking for Career Development

Students will adopt design-thinking methodologies to identify and define personal meaning, purpose and impact in the context of career development. Students will develop, test and refine multiple personal career pathways through an iterative process using peer feedback.

Module #3: Strategic Career Planning and Brand Development

Students will connect personal skills, interests, values, attributes and aspirations to create an actionable career plan. Students will create a cohesive brand portfolio including application documents aligned to their career plan.

The unit is intended to be taken throughout the calendar year to fit around work and study schedules.
