Unit Overview

Description

This unit develops student's awareness of the workplace across a range of settings with a specific focus on the implications of skill attainment and preparedness for experience in a workplace setting. The unit demonstrates strategies to effectively contribute to a workplace, safety principles and reflective practices that can be applied to optimise career growth. The unit is delivered in three asynchronous modules.

Module #1: Establishing professional foundations

Students will learn and apply workplace principles around personal and professional conduct and basic role expectations to function in a workplace environment. Students will analyse and apply the principles and concepts as they relate to safe work practices.

Module #2: Workplace communication and performance

Students will adopt clear communication techniques and an understanding of feedback mechanisms as well as an approach proactive networking in workplace settings. Students will learn to apply effective planning and organisation techniques as well as methods to demonstrate initiative in a workplace setting.

Module #3: Workplace engagement and reflective development

Students will develop a tailored placement plan to set objectives, manage expectations and optimise outcomes from their work experience. Students will formulate and develop reflective practice and apply to the context of career growth.

The unit is intended to be taken throughout the calendar year to fit around work and study schedules.

Outcomes

Students are able to (1) identify professional workplace behaviour and expectations; (2) develop an approach to workplace safety; (3) communicate and apply feedback in workplace contexts; (4) apply professional workplace skills in planning and organisation; (5) formulate a professional placement plan; and (6) identify reflective development principles.

Assessment

Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) quizzes and (2) assignment. Further information is available in the unit outline.



This unit is assessed on an ungraded pass/ungraded failed basis. All assessment items must be successfully completed.

Student may be offered supplementary assessment in this unit if they meet the eligibility criteria.
