Unit Overview

Description

This unit corresponds to the required coursework credit as a part of the professional comprehensive undergraduate degrees. Students must submit their application for placement by the published deadline in SoniaOnline, 8-12 weeks before the desired teaching period, in coordination In SoniaOnline students are guided through the process of securing an internship/placement, which is a component of the unit. Enrolments in WIL units are subject to approval by the Employability and Careers Office: a student who withdraws from a WIL placement after confirmation of placement with the host organisation will be declared to have failed the unit unless the Coordinator is satisfied that there were exceptional circumstances to justify withdrawal. This unit is not available for self-enrolment.

The unit is intended to be taken throughout the calendar year to fit around work and study schedules.

Outcomes

Students are able to (1) demonstrate appropriate workplace conduct and behaviour; (2) communicate effectively with workplace colleagues; and (3) reflect on workplace performance to improve future professional experience.

Assessment

Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) professional placement and (2) reflection report. Further information is available in the unit outline.

To pass this unit, a student must: (a) achieve an overall mark of 50 per cent or higher for the unit; and (b) achieve the requisite requirements(s) or a mark of 50 per cent or greater, whichever is higher and specified in the unit outline, for the professional placement component.

This unit is assessed on an ungraded pass/ungraded failed basis. All assessment items must be successfully completed.

Student may be offered supplementary assessment in this unit if they meet the eligibility criteria.
