¹ Students in the Bachelor of Arts single degree course who choose a major in Asian Studies must include a second major in their course.

3.2.2.9(1) The major consists of units to a total value of 48 points comprising—

(a) Level 1 Asian Studies units to the value of 12 points from Table 3.2.2a (Bachelor of Arts options);

and

(b) Level 2 or 3 Asian Studies units to the value of 36 points from Table 3.2.2a (Bachelor of Arts options).

(2) Students may substitute for Level 1 units required under (1)(a) Level 1 units from Ancient History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Economics, Employment Relations, English, Geography, History, Linguistics, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations, Japanese, Chinese or Indonesian.

(3) The units required under (1)(b) may include the following:

All units have a value of six points unless otherwise stated.

3.2.2.10(1) The major consists of units to a total value of 48 or 54 points comprising—

(a) all units in Table 3.2.2b [Chinese major (Beginners' stream) core units]—30 points

and

(b) either

(i) all units in Group A in Table 3.2.2c [Chinese major (Beginners' stream) options]—18 points

or

(ii) one unit from Group B in Table 3.2.2c [Chinese major (Beginners' stream) options]—24 points.

(2) After consulting a course adviser, a student may substitute the units in Group B or C in Table 3.2.2c [Chinese major (Beginners' stream) options] for any units in Table 3.2.2b [Chinese major (Beginners' stream) core units] or units in Group A in Table 3.2.2c [Chinese major (Beginners' stream) options] of equivalent value.

3.2.2.11(1) The major consists of units to a total value of 48 or 54 points comprising—

(a) all units in Table 3.2.2d [Chinese major (Post-Secondary stream) core units]—24 points

and

(b) one unit from Group A in Table 3.2.2e [Chinese major (Post-Secondary stream) options]—6 points

and

(c) either

(i) all units in Group B in Table 3.2.2e [Chinese major (Post-Secondary stream) options]—18 points

or

(ii) one unit from Group C in Table 3.2.2e [Chinese major (Post-Secondary stream) options]—24 points.

(2) After consulting a course adviser, a student may substitute the units in Group C or D in Table 3.2.2e [Chinese major (Post-Secondary stream) options] for any units in Table 3.2.2d [Chinese major (Post-Secondary stream) core units] or units in Group B in Table 3.2.2e [Chinese major (Post-Secondary stream) options] of equivalent value.

Students who have studied standard modern Chinese Mandarin at primary/secondary school level in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore or Taiwan, may enrol in the Chinese major (Advanced stream). This stream is also open to students who have completed Advanced Chinese at secondary school. Native speakers of Chinese may not complete a major in Chinese without special approval from the Faculty.

¹ Students who are native speakers of Indonesian and/or Malay or who have been fully or partially educated in one of these languages are not admitted to Indonesian language units.

3.2.2.12 The major consists of units to a total value of 48 or 54 points comprising—

(a) all units in Table 3.2.2f [Indonesian major (Beginners' stream) core units]—30 points

and

(b) either

(i) all units in Group A in Table 3.2.2.g [Indonesian major (Beginners' stream) options]—18 points

or

(ii) the unit in Group B in Table 3.2.2g [Indonesian major (Beginners' stream) options]—24 points.

¹ Students who are native speakers of Indonesian and/or Malay or who have been fully or partially educated in one of these languages are not admitted to Indonesian language units.

3.2.2.13 The major consists of units to a total value of 48 or 54 points comprising—

(a) all units in Table 3.2.2h [Indonesian major (Post-Secondary stream) core units]—24 points

and

(b) one unit from Group A in Table 3.2.2i [Indonesian major (Post-Secondary stream) options]—6 points

and

(c) either

(i) all units in Group B in Table 3.2.2i [Indonesian major (Post-Secondary stream) options]—18 points

or

(ii) the unit in Group C in Table 3.2.2i [Indonesian major (Post-Secondary stream) options]—24 points.

¹ Students who are native speakers of Japanese or who have been fully or partially educated in Japanese are not admitted to Japanese language units.

3.2.2.14 The major consists of units to the value of 48 or 54 points comprising—

(a) all units in Table 3.2.2j [Japanese major (Beginners' stream) core units]—30 points

and

(b) either

(i) all units in Group A in Table 3.2.2k [Japanese major (Beginners' stream) options]—18 points

or

(ii) one of the units in Group B in Table 3.2.2k [Japanese major (Beginners' stream) options]—24 points.

(a) all units in Table 3.2.2l [Japanese major (Post-Secondary stream) core units]—24 or 30 points

(b)(i) one unit from Group A in Table 3.2.2m [Japanese major (Post-Secondary stream) options]—6 points

and

(ii) all units in Group B in Table 3.2.2m [Japanese major (Post-Secondary stream) options]—18 points

or

(c) one of the units in Group C in Table 3.2.2m [Japanese major (Post-Secondary stream) options]—24 points.
