- 8.2.1 Faculty general provisions for bachelor's degrees
Faculty’s Clinical and Practicum Placement Policy
8.2.1.1 Students must comply with the requirements of the Faculty’s Clinical and Practicum Placement Policy.1

Academic Conduct Essentials module
8.2.1.2(1) Except as stated in (2), a student who enrols in a course of the University for the first time, irrespective of whether they have previously been enrolled in another course of the University, must undertake a module called Academic Conduct Essentials (the ACE module) in the teaching period in which they are first enrolled.
(2) A student who has previously achieved a result of Ungraded Pass (UP) for the ACE module is not required to repeat the module.
(3) A student who has not achieved a result of Ungraded Pass (UP) for the ACE module when their progress is assessed will not have made satisfactory progress even if they have met the other requirements for satisfactory progress in the rules for the course.
(4) A student who fails to make satisfactory progress in terms of (3) is assigned a progress status of 'On Probation' unless they have been assigned a progress status of 'Suspended' or 'Excluded' for failure to meet the other requirements for satisfactory progress set out in the rules for the course.
- 8.2.2 Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (90110), (90160) Only available to re-enrolling students.
Note: 90160 is the code for the graduate course. The following rules apply to both the 90110 course and the 90160 (graduate) course unless otherwise stated.
The 90110 and 90160 courses are only available to re-enrolling students.
Applicability of the Student Rules, policies and procedures
8.2.2.1(1) The Student Rules in the Student Procedures, Rules and Policies section apply to students in this course.
(2) The policies and procedures in the Student Procedures, Rules and Policies section apply except as otherwise indicated in the rules for this course.
Applicability of the Faculty general provisions for bachelor's degrees
8.2.2.2 The Faculty general provisions for bachelor's degrees in 8.2.1 apply to the course for the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

8.2.2.4(1) Subject to (2) and (3) and to Rules 8.2.2.4A, 8.2.2.4B, 8.2.2.4C and 8.2.2.4D, the course consists of units to a total value of 288 points comprising—
(a) all units in Table 8.2.2a (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery core units)—270 points
and
(b) a Level 1 unit chosen with the approval of the Faculty from among the Level 1 units offered within the University—6 points
and
(c) a Level 2 unit from Table 8.2.2b (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery options) or, with the approval of the Faculty, a unit chosen from among the units offered by the Faculty—6 points
and
(d) a Level 3 unit from Table 8.2.2b (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery options) or, with the approval of the Faculty, a unit chosen from among those offered by the Faculty—6 points.
(2) Students who, in the opinion of the Faculty, do not have adequate knowledge of physics must complete PHYS1131 Introductory Physics as the Level 1 unit required under (1)(b).
(3) Before commencing any Level 6 unit of the course students must undertake an elective placement of at least six weeks' duration.
Specialisations and variations 1
8.2.2.4A(1) Students may, if they so elect, pursue a specialisation or a variation within the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery course (90110).
(2) The specialisations available are—
(a) Rural and Remote Medicine; and
(b) Aboriginal Health.
(3) The variation available is Rural Clinical Practice.

Rural and Remote Medicine specialisation 1
8.2.2.4B(1) The course structure for students pursuing the Rural and Remote Medicine specialisation is as set out in Rule 8.2.2.4 except that—
(a) instead of any Level 2 option required under Rule 8.2.2.4(1)(c) students must complete IMED2293 Aboriginal Health (6 points);
and
(b) instead of any Level 3 option required under Rule 8.2.2.4(1)(d) students must—
(i) complete RMED3401 and RMED3402 Rural Health Care Part 1 and Part 2 (6 points); or
(ii) if they have not completed IMED2293 Aboriginal Health, complete IMED3393 Aboriginal Health (6 points);
and
(c) instead of the Level 4 core units IMED4501 and IMED4502 Research and Discovery Part 1 and Part 2 (4 points) students must complete RMED4401 and RMED4402 Research and Discovery (Rural and Remote Medicine) Part 1 and Part 2 (4 points);
and
(d) instead of the Level 5 core units IMED5601 and IMED5602 Options Part 1 and Part 2 (2 points) students must complete RMED5501 and RMED5502 Options (Rural and Remote Medicine) Part 1 and Part 2 (2 points);
and
(e) instead of the Level 6 core units IMED6621 and IMED6622 Personal and Professional Development Part 1 and Part 2 (2 points) students must complete RMED6601 and RMED6602 Personal and Professional Development (Rural and Remote Medicine) Part 1 and Part 2 (2 points).
(2) Students must complete a six-week elective placement, in accordance with Rule 8.2.2.4(3), which must be in a rural primary health care setting approved by the Manager (Student Affairs) and the Rural Clinical School's Senior Lecturer in Medical Education, prior to commencing any Level 6 units.

Aboriginal Health specialisation
8.2.2.4C(1) Subject to (3), the course structure for students pursuing the Aboriginal Health specialisation is as set out in Rule 8.2.2.4 except that—
(a) instead of any Level 2 option required under Rule 8.2.2.4(1)(c) students must complete IMED2293 Aboriginal Health (6 points);
and
(b) instead of any Level 3 option required under Rule 8.2.2.4(1)(d) students must complete IMED3421 and IMED3422 Aboriginal Community Organisation Placement Part 1 and Part 2 (6 points);
and
(c) instead of the Level 4 core units IMED4501 and IMED4502 Research and Discovery Part 1 and Part 2 (4 points) students must complete AHEA4401 and AHEA4402 Research and Discovery (Aboriginal Health) Part 1 and Part 2 (4 points);
and

(3) Students may complete the Rural Clinical Practice variation in accordance with Rule 8.2.2.4D including at least six weeks of full-time placements in an approved Aboriginal community controlled health service.
(4) The Faculty may permit a student who completes the Rural Clinical Practice variation in accordance with (3) to complete the elective placement referred to in (2) in a setting other than an Aboriginal health setting.
Rural Clinical Practice variation
8.2.2.4D The course structure for students pursuing the Rural Clinical Practice variation is as set out in Rule 8.2.2.4 except that students complete RMED5571 and RMED5572 Rural Clinical Practice Part 1 and Part 2 (32 points) instead of the following Level 5 core units:

8.2.2.5(1) Subject to (2) and to Rules 8.2.2.5A, 8.2.2.5B, 8.2.2.5C and 8.2.2.5D, the course consists of units to a total value of 240 points comprising—
(a) all units in Table 8.2.2c (Graduate Bridging Course core units) which must be taken concurrently on a full-time basis—48 points
and
(b) all Level 3, 4, 5 and 6 units in Table 8.2.2a (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery core units)—186 points
and
(c) a Level 3 unit from Table 8.2.2b (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery options) or, with the approval of the Faculty, a unit chosen from among those offered by the Faculty—6 points.
(2) Before commencing any Level 6 unit of the course students must undertake an elective placement of at least six weeks' duration.
Specialisations and variations 1
8.2.2.5A(1) Students may, if they so elect, pursue a specialisation or a variation within the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (graduate) course (90610).
(2) The specialisations available are—
(a) Rural and Remote Medicine; and
(b) Aboriginal Health.
(3) The variation available is Rural Clinical Practice.

Rural and Remote Medicine specialisation 1

8.2.2.5C(1) Subject to (3), the course structure for students pursuing the Aboriginal Health specialisation is as set out in Rule 8.2.2.5 except that—
(a) instead of any Level 3 option required under Rule 8.2.2.5(1)(c) students must complete IMED3421 and IMED3422 Aboriginal Community Organisation Placement Part 1 and Part 2 (6 points);
and
(b) instead of the Level 4 core units IMED4501 and IMED4502 Research and Discovery Part 1 and Part 2 (4 points) students must complete AHEA4401 and AHEA4402 Research and Discovery (Aboriginal Health) Part 1 and Part 2 (4 points);
and
(c) instead of the Level 5 core units IMED5601 and IMED5602 Options Part 1 and Part 2 (2 points) students must complete AHEA5501 and AHEA5502 Options (Aboriginal Health) Part 1 and Part 2 (2 points);
and

8.2.2.6(1) Students must enrol on a full-time basis unless the Faculty permits otherwise in exceptional circumstances.
(2) Students who have been permitted to enrol on a part-time basis in units of one level will not be permitted to enrol on a part-time basis in units of the next level.
Requirement to attend and complete prescribed work
8.2.2.7 Students must attend all lectures, seminars, tutorials, demonstrations and teaching and other sessions and do clinical and practical work as required at the University and at teaching hospitals and other institutions approved by the Faculty, as set out in the Faculty's Clinical Practicum and Placement Policy.
Faculty's Infection Control Policy
8.2.2.8 Students must comply with the requirements of the Faculty's Infection Control Policy.1

8.2.2.9 Students must comply with the requirements of the Faculty's Senior First Aid Certificate Policy.1

Prerequisites
8.2.2.10 Unless the Faculty permits otherwise, students are not permitted to proceed to units of a higher level until they have completed all units of the previous level.
Allocation of grades and marks
8.2.2.11 The Board of Examiners may take into consideration a student's overall performance in all units that have been taken in the course when determining whether the student should be passed or failed in any unit or component of a unit.
Supplementary assessment—Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (90110) 1
8.2.2.12(1) In determining whether or not to provide a student with an opportunity for supplementary assessment in a unit, the Board of Examiners will take into account a student's entire academic record.
(2) Students who fail at the first attempt in more than two of the units for which they are enrolled are not provided with the opportunity for supplementary assessment in the failed units.
(3) Students repeating a year are not provided with the opportunity for supplementary assessment.
(4) Students who fail a deferred examination in a unit are not provided with the opportunity for supplementary assessment in that unit.

Satisfactory progress
8.2.2.14 To make satisfactory progress in a calendar year students must pass all units in which they are enrolled after the final date for withdrawal without academic penalty.

Progress status
8.2.2.15(1) The Faculty, on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners, may assign a progress status of 'On Probation' or 'Excluded' to any student who does not make satisfactory progress.
(2) Unless it determines otherwise in light of exceptional circumstances, the Faculty, on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners, will assign a progress status of 'On Probation' to a student who—
(a) fails no more than three Level 5 units; or
(b) fails no more than three Level 6 units; or
(c) fails a supplementary assessment.
(3) Unless it determines otherwise in light of exceptional circumstances, the Faculty, on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners, will assign a progress status of 'Excluded' to a student who—
(a) fails more than three Level 5 units; or
(b) fails more than three Level 6 units; or
(c) fails one or more units while 'On Probation'; or
(d) fails to complete units to a total value of 96 points in three consecutive years of enrolment.
(4) A student who is assigned a progress status of 'Excluded' under (3)(c) or (3)(d) will not be permitted to re-enrol in the course.
Note: Students excluded under (3)(a) should consult the Faculty regarding future admission to the Doctor of Medicine.
Requirements for students on probation—Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (90110)
8.2.2.16(1) Subject to (2) and (3), students who have been assigned a progress status of 'On Probation' must repeat all units of the highest level that they have previously attempted.
(2) Students covered by (1) may seek an exemption from the requirement to repeat a Level 1, 2, 3, or 4 core unit if they have obtained a mark of at least 70 per cent in that unit.
(3) Students covered by (1) may seek an exemption from the requirement to repeat a Level 1, 2, 3 or 5 option if they have obtained a mark of at least 50 per cent in that unit.
(4) Students covered by (1) will not be granted an exemption from the requirement to repeat Level 5 or 6 units with clinical or practical skill requirements, including the end of year written examinations in Level 5 or 6 (Science and Practice of Medicine units) or Personal and Professional Development units.
(5) Students are not permitted to seek exemption from the requirement to repeat part of a unit only.
(6) Students who are granted exemption from the requirement to repeat a unit are credited with the unit as previously passed.
Requirements for students on probation—Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (graduate) (90160)
8.2.2.17(1) Students who have been assigned a progress status of 'On Probation' must repeat all units of the highest level they have previously attempted.

Previous academic record and special consideration
8.2.2.18(1) In implementing Rules 8.2.2.11 to 8.2.2.17 inclusive, due account is taken of a student's entire previous academic record and of any claim that examination performance was adversely affected by illness or other special circumstances.
(2) The Board of Examiners will only consider a variation to a unit result as a consequence of a successful application for special consideration when a student has failed a unit.
Leave and retention of credit
8.2.2.19(1) Students may apply for a period of approved leave in accordance with University Policy.
(2) Following a period of approved leave of no more than one year, students retain credit for all units previously passed.
(3) Following a period of approved leave of more than one year, the Faculty may permit a student to retain credit for units previously passed in the course subject to the student's previous academic record, reason for taking leave, period of absence from the course and occupation during the period of absence.
(4) Students who are enrolling in Level 5 or 6 units following a period of approved leave may be required to undertake a period of clinical skills preparatory work, the duration and nature of which will be determined by the Faculty.
(5) The Faculty does not permit students to retain credit for units previously passed in the course if they have been absent from the course for five or more consecutive years.
Award of honours
8.2.2.20(1) Having regard to the Faculty's policy on honours, the degree is awarded with honours to students who achieve an overall standard of work in all years of the course which, in the opinion of the Board of Examiners, is of an appropriately high level.
(2) A student who fails or is provided with an opportunity for supplementary assessment in any unit in the course is not eligible for the award of honours.

Admission
8.2.3.3(1) To be considered for entry into the Bachelor of Medical Science course applicants must—
(a)(i) have completed at least the Level 3 requirements of the course for the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery of this University, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty; and
(ii) have shown special aptitude in their studies; and
(iii) be recommended by the head of the school concerned as suitable for advanced work;
or
(b) have completed the course for the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery of this University, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty, with a course weighted average mark of at least 65 per cent;
or
(c)(i) have completed the requirements of the course for the Bachelor of Science (50110) pass degree of this University, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty, with a relevant major in the area of biomedical science; and
(ii) have achieved an average of at least 65 per cent in the Level 3 units of the relevant major, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty; and
(iii) have completed within the previous four years the final unit or units of the major subject in which they intend to proceed to honours, unless the Faculty approves otherwise in recognition of exceptional circumstances.
(2) Those described in (1)(a) who are accepted into the Bachelor of Medical Science course will be permitted by the Faculty to interrupt their studies for the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery to enrol in the Bachelor of Medical Science course.
Course structure
(a) complete an approved course of advanced study and research to the value of 48 points in any subject approved by the Faculty; and
(b) work for at least 36 weeks as a full-time student in the school concerned.
External study
8.2.3.5 The Faculty may permit a student to undertake an approved course of advanced study and research at an institution either interstate or overseas.
Assessment
8.2.3.6(1) A student must, no later than 31 October following their first enrolment in the Bachelor of Medical Science course,—
(a) submit to the school a dissertation on the work done; and
(b) sit for such written, practical and oral examinations as may be required.
(2) A school must, for each dissertation, appoint no more than two examiners who, following their examination of the dissertation, provide a written report to the school.
Award of degree
8.2.3.7 The degree is awarded with honours of the appropriate class when a student completes the course described in Rule 8.2.3.4.

(b) for admission to the course for the Bachelor of Science (50110) with honours.

8.2.4.15 Students who withdraw from the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery course before completing all of the requirements of the course but after completing at least the Level 1, 2 and 3 units may, with the approval of the Faculty, be permitted to transfer to the Bachelor of Health Science course.

8.2.4.16 Students who have been permitted to transfer to the Bachelor of Health Science course under Rule 8.2.4.15 must complete units to the value of 60 or 66 points, as appropriate, comprising—
(a) all units in Table 8.2.4e (Bachelor of Health Science pass degree course for students transferring from MB BS core units)—42 points
and

8.2.7.1(1) The Student Rules in the Student Procedures, Rules and Policies section apply to students in this course.

Applicability of the Faculty general provisions for bachelor’s degrees
8.2.7.2 The Faculty general provisions for bachelor’s degrees in 8.2.1 apply to the course for the degree of Bachelor of Dental Science.
Admission
8.2.7.3 In addition to meeting the requirements of the Regulations for Admission and Transfer to Undergraduate Award Courses, an applicant must, before being admitted to the course—
(a) have demonstrated that they are not antigen positive in relation to Hepatitis B, as required by the Faculty’s Infection Control Policy; and
(b) have fulfilled any other requirements for admission to the course specified in the Faculty’s Infection Control Policy.1

Course structure
8.2.7.4 The course consists of units to a total value of 240 points comprising all units in Table 8.2.7a (Bachelor of Dental Science core units).
Mode of study
8.2.7.5(1) Students must enrol in the Level 1 units of the course on a full-time basis.
(2) Subject to (3), students must enrol in the Level 2, 3, 4 and 5 units of the course on a full-time basis unless the Faculty permits otherwise in exceptional circumstances.
(3) Students who have been permitted to enrol on a part-time basis in units of one level will not be permitted to enrol on a part-time basis in units of the next level.
Requirement to attend and complete prescribed work
8.2.7.6 Students must attend all lectures and demonstrations, carry out laboratory and clinical work, pass examinations, and do any other work that the Faculty may determine within the University or in an institution approved by the University, as set out in the Faculty’s Clinical Practicum and Placement Policy.
Restriction on location for prescribed practical dental work
8.2.7.7 A student who does or causes to be done any prescribed practical dental work in any place other than that allocated for that work will not be permitted to present for examination in that year.
Faculty’s Infection Control Policy
8.2.7.8 Students must comply with the requirements of the Faculty’s Infection Control Policy for the period of the course.1

Faculty’s Senior First Aid Certificate Policy
8.2.7.9 Students must comply with the requirements of the Faculty’s Senior First Aid Certificate Policy.1

Prerequisites
8.2.7.10 Except as set out in Rule 8.2.7.15, students are not permitted to proceed to units of a higher level until they have completed all units of the previous level.
Allocation of grades and marks
8.2.7.11 The Board of Examiners will take into consideration a student’s overall performance in all units that have been taken in the course when determining whether the student should be passed or failed in any unit or component of a unit.
Supplementary assessment 1
8.2.7.12(1) In determining whether or not to provide a student with an opportunity for supplementary assessment in a unit, the Board of Examiners will take into account a student’s entire academic record.
(2) Except in exceptional circumstances, the Board of Examiners will not—
(a) provide an opportunity for supplementary assessment to a student who is repeating a year;
(b) provide an opportunity for supplementary assessment in a Level 5 unit; or
(c) provide an opportunity for supplementary assessment in more than two units of the same level.
(3) Students who fail a deferred examination in a unit are not provided with the opportunity for supplementary assessment in that unit.
(4) No alternative times or venues will be made available for clinical examinations.

Deferred examinations
8.2.7.13 Unless the Faculty permits otherwise, a student who is permitted to sit a deferred examination must take the whole examination, including any papers or other parts of the examination which may already have been taken.

Viva voce examinations and extra work
8.2.7.14(1) The Faculty, on the recommendation of the Head of the School of Dentistry, may permit a student to complete additional work, or sit an oral examination, or complete a further assessment for a unit after the examination for the unit and before the scheduled meeting of the Board of Examiners if, in the opinion of the Head of School, the student’s performance in the unit is not satisfactory.
(2) It is the responsibility of the student to provide an address where they can be contacted by the School during the period between the examinations and the Board of Examiners’ meeting and to ensure that they are available to complete any additional work, examination or assessment that may be permitted under (1).
Unsatisfactory clinical performance
8.2.7.15(1) The Faculty may permit a student whose clinical performance in Level 4 units of the course is unsatisfactory but whose performance, in the opinion of the Faculty, might with additional work reach a satisfactory standard to enrol in a unit specified by the Faculty, completion of which allows the student to proceed to Level 5 units.
(2) If a student does not complete the requirements of the specified unit, the Board of Examiners will determine an appropriate course of action.
Satisfactory progress
8.2.7.16 To make satisfactory progress in any calendar year a student must pass all units for which they are enrolled after the final date for withdrawal without academic penalty.

Progress status
8.2.7.17(1) The Faculty, on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners, may assign a progress status of ‘On Probation’ or ‘Excluded’ to any student who does not make satisfactory progress.
(2) Unless it determines otherwise in light of exceptional circumstances, the Faculty, on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners, will assign a progress status of ‘On Probation’ to a student who—
(a) fails no more than three Level 5 units; or
(b) fails a supplementary assessment.
(3) Unless it determines otherwise in light of exceptional circumstances, the Faculty, on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners, will assign a progress status of ‘Excluded’ to a student who—
(a) fails more than three Level 5 units; or
(b) fails one or more units while ‘On Probation’; or
(c) fails to complete units to a total value of 96 points in three consecutive years of enrolment.
(4) A student who is assigned a progress status of ‘Excluded’ under (3)(b) or (3)(c) will not be permitted to re-enrol in the course.
Note: Students excluded under (3)(a) should consult the Faculty regarding future admission to the Doctor of Dental Medicine.
Requirements of students on probation
8.2.7.18(1) Except as set out in (2), students who have been assigned a progress status of ‘On Probation’ must repeat all units of the highest level that they have previously attempted.
(2) Students covered by (1) may seek exemption from the requirement to repeat a unit if they have obtained a mark of at least 70 per cent in the unit.
(3) Students will not be granted an exemption from the requirement to repeat units with clinical or practical skill requirements.
(4) Students who are required to repeat Level 5 units will not be granted an exemption from the requirement to repeat those units or components of those units.
(5) Students are not permitted to seek exemption from the requirement to repeat part of a unit only.
(6) The relevant unit coordinator in conjunction with the Head of the School of Dentistry and the Manager (Student Affairs) determines whether or not an application for exemption from the requirement to repeat a unit is approved.
(7) Students who are granted an exemption from the requirement to repeat a unit are credited with the unit as previously passed.
Previous academic record and special consideration
8.2.7.19(1) In implementing Rules 8.2.7.12 to 8.2.7.18 inclusive, due account is taken of a student’s entire previous academic record and of any claim that examination performance was adversely affected by illness or other special circumstances.
(2) The Board of Examiners will only consider a variation to a unit result as a consequence of a successful application for special consideration when a student has failed a unit.
Leave and retention of credit
8.2.7.20(1) Students may apply for a period of approved leave in accordance with University Policy.
(2) Following a period of approved leave of no more than one year, students retain credit for all units previously passed.
(3) Following a period of approved leave of more than one year the Faculty may permit a student to retain credit for units previously passed in the course subject to the student’s previous academic record, reason for taking leave, period of absence from the course and occupation during the period of absence.
(4) Students who are enrolling in any units following a period of approved leave may be required to undertake a period of clinical skills preparatory work, the duration and nature of which will be determined by the Head of the School of Dentistry.
(5) The Faculty will not permit students to retain credit for units previously passed in the course if they have been absent from the course for five or more consecutive years.
Award of honours
8.2.7.21(1) Having regard to the Faculty’s policy on honours, the degree is awarded with honours to students who achieve an overall standard of work in the course which, in the opinion of the Board of Examiners, is of an appropriately high level in all years of the course.
(2) A student who fails or is granted a supplementary examination in any unit in the course is not eligible for the award of honours.

8.2.8.2 The Faculty general provisions for bachelor’s degrees in 8.2.1 apply to the course for the Bachelor of Science in Dentistry honours degree.
Admission
8.2.8.3 The Faculty, on the recommendation of the Head of the School of Dentistry, may accept into the course for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Dentistry students who—
(a)(i) have completed at least two years of the Bachelor of Dental Science course, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty; or
(ii) have completed a bachelor’s degree of this University in an area of study acceptable to the Faculty, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty;
and
(b) have shown special aptitude in their previous studies and in the opinion of the Head of the School of Dentistry, having taken appropriate advice from staff in the discipline concerned, are suitable for advanced study.
Course structure
8.2.8.4(1) The course for the degree, which is determined in each case by the Faculty, may be undertaken in any appropriate school approved by the Faculty and will include both advanced study and research to the value of 48 points.
(2) Students must work on the course in the approved school for at least 36 weeks if enrolled full-time or for a period determined by the Faculty if enrolled part-time.
Assessment
8.2.8.5 A student must submit either a dissertation or a formal report on their work by 31 October following their first enrolment in the Bachelor of Science in Dentistry course if enrolled full-time or by a date to be determined by the Faculty if enrolled part-time.
Time limit
8.2.8.6(1) Except as set out in (2), students must enrol full-time and complete the requirements of the course within one year.
(2) In exceptional circumstances, the Faculty, on the recommendation of the Head of the School of Dentistry after seeking appropriate advice, may permit a student to enrol part-time and to complete the requirements within two years.

Award of honours
8.2.8.7 On successful completion of the course, the degree of Bachelor of Science in Dentistry is awarded with honours of the appropriate class.
