Unit Overview

Description

This unit offers current teachers an opportunity for renewal and extension of curriculum and pedagogical knowledge relevant to the Australian Curriculum. It has a particular focus on exploring new learning spaces and technological innovations, and their application in the classroom. It is supported by an action research project which links contemporary thinking with everyday classroom practice. The unit focuses on new learning spaces, including online and hybrid spaces, and their integration with existing learning environments. It is designed to develop students' understanding of, and familiarity with, innovative practice including the embedding of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in teaching and learning. It is framed by a discussion of contemporary insights into and debates over pedagogy, assessment and curriculum, in the context of a developing knowledge of the Australian curriculum. This includes an awareness of the curriculum strands and the general competencies. In particular, students develop their ability to link new learning spaces and innovative practice with the Australian curriculum. Students undertake action research on a curriculum-based project relevant to their teaching.
