About this major
Studying French is not simply about learning a language—it's an experience that will open your mind to different cultures and enrich you with knowledge of history. French Studies helps you achieve high levels of competency in speaking, writing, listening and reading the French language. This major also introduces you to ways in which the language is the key to the culture and intellectual accomplishments of French-speaking people in France itself and also the many French-speaking communities around the world. The French Studies major is offered to students at all levels, from beginners through to native speakers. You will also study past and present French literature, films, and popular culture providing them with a holistic and stimulating cultural and educational experience.
The French major is available as follows:
- FRNHB French Studies
- This major is taken by beginners. It is incompatible with a pass in WACE French: FRE 2A/2B or higher.
- FRNHI French Studies
- Admission to this major requires a pass in WACE French: FRE 3A/3B.
- FRNHA French Studies
- This major is available to students assessed by the discipline as near native speaker.
